'Near Lihons, on 10th August 1918, for conspicuous gallantr y while in command of the support company. In the advance , owing to heavy casualties, a gap occurred between our rig h flank and the right battalion. Realizing the danger of th e situation he rushed the enemy post in the face of enemy m achine gun fire, and captured the position at the point o f the bayonet, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy

and capturing five prisoners, while four field guns and eig ht machine guns were taken. Later in the day he took over c ommand of the right company and handled a very dangerous an d difficult position with great dash and skill.'
